Calvin Chua Cheng Koon, born in 1961 in Northern Malaysia, is a veteran artist in the Southeast Asian art scene. Since his graduation from the Kuala Lumpur College of Arts in the early 1980s, Calvin has dedicated himself to being a full-time artist. Throughout his career, he has actively participated in numerous international art events and exhibitions worldwide, showcasing his works in countries such as Malaysia, Belgium, China, Brazil, Sweden, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, Singapore, India, and Indonesia.
Calvin’s artistic talent has garnered recognition, including the Malaysian Young Contemporaries Award and the Yayasan Seni Selangor Award. He is an esteemed member of various art societies, including his role as Chairman of the Malaysian Watercolour Society, as well as membership in the Singapore Watercolour Society and the National Watercolor Society as a Signature Member.
With expertise in various mediums, including watercolour, oil, acrylic, and ink, Calvin’s artistic repertoire spans diverse subjects, from capturing people to portraying scenes. His works often revolve around the daily lives of the Malaysian community and their interactions with nature. As an avid traveller, Calvin draws inspiration from his journeys, infusing his art with a sense of exploration and discovery.
Calvin has held twelve solo art exhibitions to date, showcasing his unique artistic style and vision. His artworks have been highly sought after and collected by prestigious organisations and institutions such as the Central Bank of Malaysia, Deutsche Bank, Malayan Banking Berhad, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts, among others.
