Chiang Shih Wen, born in 1949 in Malacca, is a renowned artist. He graduated with a degree in Fine Art from the KL College of Art in 1974. Chiang’s paintings draw inspiration from the cityscape of Malacca, but instead of realistic depictions, he infuses his works with vibrant colours and a sense of airiness in the landscapes.
Before beginning a painting, Chiang Shih Wen spends time outdoors, sketching the scenes that inspire him. He then completes the artwork in his studio. His paintings are characterised by meticulous structures that encompass colours, shapes, composition, and scale. Through his art, viewers are invited to explore a historical and tourist city, redirecting their attention to the simple pleasures and tranquillity of everyday life in Malaysia.
Chiang Shih Wen has received recognition for his talent and contributions to the art world. He was awarded the Outstanding Award in the “Young Artist Competition” organised by “Nanyang Siang Pau” in 1981, as well as the “Malaysia Landscape in Water Colour” award in 1982, organised by The National Art Gallery.
