Born in Kedah in 1943, Choh Kok Keong is an artist who proudly identifies himself as a “Kampong” man. He finds his greatest inspiration in the familiar subject of village life in Kedah. Known for his genuine and sincere nature, Choh exudes a warmth that can only be found in someone with a heart as simple and pure as that of a village child. His art serves as a heartfelt expression, eager to share with the world the charm of rustic landscapes, the serene beauty of paddy fields at dawn and dusk, the sheer joy of coming home, and the coastal splendor of northern Malaysia, among other themes.
Choh Kok Keong is a master of both oil and watercolor mediums, and his artistic style is characterized by its vibrancy, boldness, and a touch of wildness. However, even in his most dynamic works, he never fails to convey a sense of tranquility within the scenes he portrays.
His artistic talents have garnered widespread recognition on both local and international stages. He has been invited to exhibit his works in countries such as Taiwan, China, Korea, and India, showcasing his artistry to diverse audiences around the world. Within Malaysia itself, he has been featured in more than 20 exhibitions.
Choh Kok Keong’s influence extends beyond his artwork; he is also a founding figure in the art community. He established the North Kedah Art Society, served as the founder and chairman of the North Malaysia Watercolor Society, and played a crucial role as the co-founder of the Malaysian Watercolor Organization. His contributions to the world of art have left an indelible mark on both the local and global art scenes.
