“I enjoy drawing people and convey stories through my paintings. The stories are mainly based on my life and experiences as long as my childhood memories.
I enjoy observing the daily lives of people including their normal and leisure activities. Those actions that are sort of relaxing yet beautiful are what motivates me and provide me with the urge to create my artworks. I love using exaggerating methods to highlight the muscular arms and legs. To me, the human body doesn’t have to be necessarily realistic, as my style of drawing the human nature is to be simplistic.”
Throughout his career, Lee has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions, showcasing his artwork both locally and internationally. His works have been featured in galleries and art spaces across Malaysia, including the Purplehouz Fine Arts and The Art Gallery in Penang. He has also been recognized with awards and honours, including prizes in watercolour competitions and the UOB 2011 – The Best of 20 Paintings.
Through his art, Lee Eng Beng invites viewers to connect with his stories and interpretations of human life. His paintings evoke a sense of nostalgia and invite contemplation, offering a unique perspective on the beauty found in everyday moments.
