Nadzrin Haziq is a passionate artist who finds profound inspiration in nature and its elements. He is captivated by the serenity of a sunny landscape and how the light and shadows interplay, fragmenting the scene into multiple layers of space. Music and nature’s performances offer a soothing ambiance, in which he immerses himself. Haziq layers his canvas with oil paint, creating textures that mirror the colors and movements of nature. He manipulates space and contrast between the oil layers, while the thin, transparent quality of acrylic, applied on a wet surface, mimics the flowing wind and gravity, yielding effects of dripping and stagnation. This balance of tranquility and tension, embodied in rugged strokes flowing in chaotic directions, creates the unique character of his work.
Throughout the creative process, Haziq transitions from structured to unstructured, planned to unplanned, resulting in art pieces that are fundamentally organic. This flexible approach allows him to delve deeper into the creative process, treating it as an exploration rather than a task. As an abstract expressionist, his works often feature rough, dynamic, and sweeping brush strokes of oil paints on canvas, striking them with both controlled and uncontrolled strokes. The ensuing paintings present unplanned shapes and textures that evolve with time and through the processes of erasing, rotating, and layering paints. Haziq doesn’t sketch before he paints as he seeks to provoke accidental and incidental effects in his work. He continuously revisits his paintings, considering them as ‘work-in-progress’, and employs mistakes as a guide to his next composition, embracing the idea of imperfection as a gateway to new modes of experimentation.
Haziq’s work celebrates the constant changes in nature that contribute to the organic forms on the canvas. His creative process is akin to growth and life, never truly knowing when it will stop, as the form and character of his works keep evolving over time. The hues he uses in his art reflect the ever-changing landscapes and reflections caused by the sun’s transitions. His portfolio boasts of several exhibitions, including ‘Lembaran’ and ‘Turun Tanah’ at Artas Galeri and Puteh gallery respectively in 2022, ‘Essence: Solo exhibition’ at Artas Galeri in the same year, ‘ArtMoment Jakarta’ at Segaris Art Centre, and many more. His work was also showcased in ‘Post Graduate Showcase Master of Fine Art Technology’ at UITM Jalan Othman and ‘Young and Restless’ at Artas Gallery in 2020, further illustrating his growth and evolution as an artist.
