Rafiee Ghani, born in Kulim, Kedah in 1962, is a renowned Malaysian fine artist known for his vibrant and dynamic works. His artistic journey began at De Virge Academie Voor Beeldende Kunst in the Netherlands and continued at Institut Teknologi MARA in Dungun. Europe played a significant role in shaping his artistic vision, as he drew inspiration from the works of old masters like Vincent Van Gogh and Henri Matisse.
Rafiee’s signature style is characterised by bold colours and expressive brushstrokes. He excels in the Intimism genre, creating still-life paintings that depict everyday objects such as vases, chairs, mugs, and fruits. Aesthetics play a vital role in his artwork, as he skillfully balances composition and harmony, resulting in visually pleasing and artistic pieces. While he was formally trained in printmaking techniques, it is his mastery in oil painting that distinguishes him from other artists. Rafiee expertly incorporates limited colours, creating an imaginary illusion of submerged images amidst a vibrant colour scheme.
As a dedicated full-time artist, Rafiee actively participates in exhibitions held in private and public galleries worldwide. His recent solo exhibition, “Freedom,” was held at the PINKGUY Art Gallery. Notable past shows include “Room of Flowers” in 1993, “The Painted Garden” in 1996, and “Kebun Sultan” in 2002. His exceptional artwork has garnered recognition and has been collected by major corporations such as Bank Negara Malaysia, Petronas Gallery, Dynasty Hotel, Bank Utama, and Malaysian Tobacco Company. Additionally, his works grace the collections of notable individuals, including Mr. Albert Rene, the President of the Seychelles, as well as various private collections in the United States, Europe, and Asia.
