Soo Chee Mun, a dynamic contemporary artist, channels his emotions into his art. He was born on August 22, 1981, in Kuala Lumpur and furthered his passion for art by studying at the Kuala Lumpur College of Arts (KLCA). There, he was classmates with another notable artist, Tony Ng.
One of Chee Mun’s signature works features a complete portrayal of a rooster, captured in all its pride and grandeur, from its vivid plumage to its distinctive comb. This image is rendered in striking tones of electric blue, earthy brown, and radiant red. The artist chose the rooster as his subject due to its unwavering resolve, punctuality, and familial protectiveness.
When queried about this choice, Chee Mun recollected his childhood when his family raised chickens. This experience provided him with ample opportunity to observe these creatures closely. His inspiration stems from the nurturing character of roosters and the sense of unity and affection they display within their flock.
